AI Won’t Fix a Broken Product Process. It’ll Just Make It Faster.

If your team is an order taking machine, AI might just help you build the wrong things faster.

AI has made it easier than ever to build things.

That’s great.

Unless you’re building the wrong things.

One of the biggest problems I’ve seen in product organizations for years is what I like to call “order taking.”

Someone asks for a feature. It goes on the roadmap. Requirements get written. A team builds it. Then everyone moves on to the next request.

There’s no real conversation about the vision. No digging into the problem we’re actually trying to solve. No asking whether this is the right solution or even something we should be building in the first place.

AI doesn’t fix that dysfunction.

It accelerates it.

Now we can go from “someone asked for this” to a working prototype faster than ever. Which sounds amazing until you realize you just built the wrong thing at record speed.

And think of allllll the credits you wasted.

“The easier building becomes, the more important the thinking before the building becomes.”

What are we actually trying to accomplish?

What problem are we solving?

Who has this problem?

Does solving it support where we’re trying to go?

And is this actually the best way to solve it?

That doesn’t mean spending six months creating a strategy deck before anyone builds anything. It means doing enough groundwork to make sure there’s a reason behind what you’re asking AI, or anyone else, to create.

AI can make a strong product organization incredibly fast.

But if your product team is basically an order taking machine, AI might just help you make the wrong things faster.

And probably use a lot of credits doing it.
